Nicotiana alata has long been a popular summer bedding plant. From a basal rosette of large, slightly sticky, leaves, rise stems about 2 feet tall with clusters of long-tubed trumpet flowers in shades from white, through pink to maroon or cream to green, with a soft perfume.
